Taking a closer look at its leading trade partners:

  • Trade with No. 1 Dominican Republic fell 6.78 percent to $1.59 billion.
    Exports rose 1.77 percent to $874.48 million. Imports fell 15.5 percent to $712.57 million.
  • Trade with No. 2 Brazil fell 3.17 percent to $1.16 billion.
    Exports fell 8.97 percent to $777.37 million. Imports rose 11.18 percent to $383.83 million.
  • Trade with No. 3 Costa Rica rose 13.89 percent to $1.15 billion.
    Exports rose 9.99 percent to $743.42 million. Imports rose 21.74 percent to $408.2 million.
  • Trade with No. 4 Chile rose 40.49 percent to $1.08 billion.
    Exports rose 51.97 percent to $694.27 million. Imports rose 23.85 percent to $390.43 million.
  • Trade with No. 5 Honduras rose 6.98 percent to $1.05 billion.
    Exports rose 9.32 percent to $430.04 million. Imports rose 5.43 percent to $624.85 million.
  • Port Everglades had trade surpluses with 66 countries and deficits with 105 through July. That compares with 62 surpluses and 101 deficits for the same period one year earlier. The top three surpluses through July of this year were with Brazil, $393.53 million; Costa Rica, $335.22 million; and Panama $327.87 million.The top three deficits through July of this year were with Nicaragua, $383.24 million; Italy, $278.2 million; and Honduras, $194.8 million.

    By tonnage, the top five trade partners year-to-date are Turkey, Guatemala, Brazil, Bahamas and Colombia.

    Port Everglades top five imports accounted for 24.12 percent of all its imports through July. By way of comparison, the United States’ top five imports accounted for 22.91 percent.

    • Medical instruments fell 0.83 percent compared to last year to $458.79 million.
    • T-shirts, tank tops, knit or crochet rose 7.8 percent compared to last year to $426.75 million.
    • Sweaters, pullovers, vests, knit or crochet fell 2.64 percent compared to last year to $385.04 million.
    • Motorboats and yachts fell 12.35 percent compared to last year to $309.18 million.
    • Returned exports, without change fell 11.27 percent compared to last year to $259.42 million.
